Anderson after win No. 5 at National Trail Raceway
KIRKERSVILLE, Ohio (May 12, 2006) -- In motorsports success is measured by performance. By that definition, three-time and reigning POWERade Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, is a success. Just look at his statistics since 2002 at National Trail Raceway, in Kirkersville, Ohio, just outside Columbus.
Anderson has earned two poles (No. 1s) and has visited the winner's circle for four consecutive years (2002-2005). The Duluth, Minn.-native, who now lives in the Charlotte, N.C. area, will be gunning for win number five at the upcoming NHRA Pontiac Performance Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment. A win will tie Anderson with Pro Stock legend Bob Glidden, who put together a streak of five consecutive wins from 1979-1983. But Anderson knows it will take an all-out effort to win another at National Trail Raceway.
"We would love to believe that we could win the Columbus event," said Anderson. "We know that we'll have to work very hard and earn it. They are not going to give us the victory just because we won the last four years at Columbus. If we execute the way we did in the last four events at Columbus, then I believe we will be able to come away with another victory. If we do win, it will be an honor just to be mentioned in the same history book with Bob Glidden."
Entering qualifying for the 42nd Pontiac Performance Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment, Anderson sits atop the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings with 504 points. He is followed in second by his teammate Jason Line, who has 451 points.
Anderson is scheduled to be one of a number of the pro drivers that will attend this year's annual Pontiac Motorsports NHRA Driver Fanfest on Wednesday, May 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the dealership of Dave Gill Pontiac-GMC, located at the corner of Hamilton and Broad streets in Columbus. This year's Pontiac Motorsports Fanfest includes customer giveaways, an opportunity to sample Slammers Ultimate Milk, a radio remote, a raffle for an autographed racing helmet signed by NHRA drivers, and other NHRA motorsports activities that race fans will enjoy.
Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, May 19, scheduled for 4:30 and 7 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, May 20, at 12 noon and 2:30 p.m. Anderson begins his quest for the Pontiac Performance Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, May 21, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. *All times are local Columbus time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. *
