KIRKERSVILLE OH - SUMMIT FastNews - Day two of the Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment was hot, muggy and exciting for both fans and participants today. Cooler tempatures during this evenings Pro qualifying sessions resulted in spectacular passes, crashes and explosions here at National Trail Raceway. In Top Fuel Dragster Mike Dunn and Team Mopar missed the track record by just two thousandths of a second, going 4.574 320.05 mph during the evening qualifying session. "Ken (Veney) went back and turned some knobs after seeing Scelzi run that sixty sinc e we were already in the show. If we weren't in the show we wouldn't have done it." commented the popular driver. He added "We ran good in the heat, we ran good when the conditions got better. It feels good!" Randy Parks in the Fluke Dragster exploded an engine in a spectacular fireball this evening, providing a great, but costly photo opportunity for the large crowd. Tony Pedregon used information from his boss who had run earlier in the round to card the best time of the day in Funny Car in Round One. His team made some adjustments prior to his run that resulted in a number one 5.033 290.44 pass in the right lane. Bob Gilbertson and Dean Skuza provided plenty of excitement in this evenings Funny Car session, both drivers tagging the left side wall after experiencing drivetrain problems. Both drivers are OK, and their teams are busily repairing the damage, getting ready for two more rounds of qualifying tomorrow. Warren Johnson's dominance of Pro Stock continues, he reset the track record handily in the evening session, running 7.004 197.83. Both the ET and Speed are new track records, this track being one of the few on the National Event circuit that has yet to see either a six second run or two hundred mile per hour pass by the factory doorslammers. In Pro Stock Truck the Brad Jeter vs Bob Panella Jr. battle continued, Brad ended on top today with a superb track record setting 7.688 175.89 mph run. Mark Osborne stepped up as well, moving between the two with his own 7.696 175.71 run earlier today. Panella's 7.715 175.57 mph effort is a sure signal this battle for Pro Stock Truck leadership will continue tomorrow. Matt Hines from Trinidad Colorado leads the field in Pro Stock Motocycle, running 7.341 183.87 in round two earlier today. He is followed closely by points leader Angelle Seeling who is currently number two with a 7.374 182.38 effort. The Federal-Mogul Allstar field is set and ready for their big day tomorrow, Class and team elminations get underway at 10:00 AM. Later in the evening the winers and participants will take part in a huge banquet and celebration, thanks to the folks at Fe deral-Mogul.
