Columbus, OH. June 2, 2004 Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon knows that consistency is key to winning races. The Advance Auto Parts racing team has put that consistency together during qualifying during the past few races. This weekend the team travels to National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, where they hope to carry that consistency over, put four solid runs together on race day, and earn their first victory of the season.
"A consistent race car is what it takes to win," said Pedregon. "We've been able to put some good qualifying runs together which we're very pleased with. Now we need to carry that over and put four runs together on race day. We've had some issues with our ignition system the last couple of races with dropping cylinders and we've been going through the process of elimination trying to fix it. The team has been working hard over the past couple weeks and we're looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend."
In the nine times Pedregon has raced at National Trail, he's qualified in the top-half of the field at seven of those races including a number one qualifier award in 1998. He earned a runner up finish in 1992 and had low ET and top speed of the event in '92 and '98.
"National Trail is a great facility," added Pedregon. "We've had success there and we're hoping for another great outing this weekend."
Prior to the race, Pedregon will be at Dave Gill Pontiac-GMC dealership in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, June 9th, signing autographs from 4:00 p.m. -- 7:00 p.m. The Advance Auto Parts hauler along with the Nitro Funny Car will be on display.
The Advance Auto Parts racing team will begin qualifying on Friday, June 11th with two sessions scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 pm. (ET). Two more qualifying sessions are slated for Saturday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (ET). Final eliminations will begin at 11:00 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, June 13th.
