PRO STOCK -- FIRST ROUND NOTES

ALL THREE CHEVY CAMAROS ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND

LARRY MORGAN, RAYBESTOS CAMARO Z28, defeated Pro Stock points leader Warren Johnson in the first round, 7.141/191.40 to Johnson's 7.153/194.88. TOM HAMMONDS, WINNEBAGO/MAC TOOLS/KENDALL CAMARO Z28, eliminated Mark Osborne, 7.054/195.10 to 7.086/195.31. No. 1 QUALIFIER KURT JOHNSON, AC DELCO CAMARO Z28, beat Mike Edwards, 7.041/195.90 to 7.120/194.34.

LARRY MORGAN: ON BEATING "THE PROFESSOR": "That felt real good. We were lucky. My Camaro was really loose down track. I never saw him, that's why I never lifted, I was out of control hitting the gears. Thank God that win light came on, that's all I cared about. Now we have another Pontiac to contend with (Jim Yates in second round), but he ran a lot quicker than normal. I've beaten Warren Johnson for a lot of money before. I beat him two times in the Pro Stock Challenge (a special NHRA event), at Englishtown in '90 and in Indianapolis in '92. I beat him for $50,000 each time. I've won against him in rounds before, but these two are what really counted."

HAMMONDS: "Will you pinch me, because I don't know if I'm in a dream. It's been just an unbelievable weekend. Who knows, we will take it as far as it goes, and maybe get the Camaro into the winner's circle. I don't want to get ahead of myself becuase I still have a lot of work to do. We got down the right lane, which a lot of people were avoiding."
