WEICKGENANNT THIRD AFTER 1ST QUALIFYING SESSION

COLUMBUS, OH - Bob Weickgenannt and the Columbia, MD based B&B Racing fuel Funny Car team is qualified in the third position after the first qualifying session of the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, OH. Horrible weather yesterday and the threat of additoinal rain this weekend made the pass even more important for the team. Weickgenannt was in the left lane in the first pair down the track for the session.

The car left the line hard and continued to pull all the way down the track, finishing with a 5.113 second elapsed time at 299.60 MPH, both "bests" for the team. "I knew we were on a pass, said Weickgenannt, "I just didn't know it was that good. I really had to drive the car on the last half of the track so I knew it was a nice run. The turnoff at the end of the track came up a lot quicker than usual! I could tell it was fast."

The team added co-crew chief Keith Platt to the effort just two weeks ago. "We've been close for some time now. I think the combined efforts of (crew chiefs) Keith Platt and Dennis Whitestone has allowed us the time to really look at things and go over the car in much greater detail than we have before."

The team has three more qualifying sessions before Sunday's eliminations. Additional qualifying sessions for the Pontiac Excitement Nationals will be held at 7pm Friday night, and 11am and 3pm Saturday.
