White looking for first win of year in Indy.
CLERMONT, Ind. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Marc White will be looking for his first win of the 2002 season in the Etterman Racing Firebird at this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park. White enters the race with the Division 3 points lead, and would love to add to that lead with a win this weekend.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., expects the weather to dominate their race strategy this weekend. With rains forecasted throughout the weekend, White feels getting a solid run in during qualifying is the most important thing.
"The weather looks pretty grim for this weekend," said White. "With that in mind, our focus will be to get a good run in to make sure we make the field. It all depends on the weather."
If the weather holds out long enough to race, White feels that it will be a fast track, however.
"If it doesn't rain, it will be a fast track," stated White. "It's pretty cool up here, so the motor will be making some power, and Indy is a pretty solid racetrack, so if we are able to make a couple of runs, we should be able to get in the 5.60's or at least low .70's."
Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. for the Top Alcohol Funny Cars, with two qualifying sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
