White looking to repeat last year's Edgewater win.
CLEVES, Ohio - After a disappointing semifinal round loss just a few weeks ago in Chicago, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Marc White is ready to put that event behind him. White and the Etterman Racing Team would love nothing more than to do that by winning this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Edgewater Sports Park just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, an event that they won last year.
The team would, however, like to win this year's event in a different fashion from last year's event. Last year during qualifying, team owner George Etterman had a heart attack in the pit, that required immediate by-pass surgery. The fiery Etterman told his team to get back to the track and win the race, and did just that in his absence. White and the team would settle for a far-less dramatic victory this year.
"We really need to win this weekend after losing to Chucky [Cheeseman] the past two races," said White, of Glendale Heights, Ill. "I think we had the car to beat him in Joliet, but some problems jumped up and bit us. George has recovered fully from last year, and is doing great. This year, we want to win it with him at the track."
White feels that racing in the 'dog days of summer' will make it not only a driver's race, but a tuner's race as well. White not only drives the Etterman Racing Firebird, but contributes to the tune-up, which is a team effort rather than having one appointed 'crew chief.'
"As hot as it will be, and judging from past experiences at Edgewater, it's going to be tricky," commented White. "It's going to be whoever has the best tune-up and if the driver can get it down the track. That sound's pretty obvious, but that's easier said than done when you get to racing in the dead of summer like this. As always, we'll give it all we got, and hopefully we'll be in the winner's circle Sunday evening."
Qualifying begins on Friday, and is followed by two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
