HOT ROD FULLER FINISHES EIGHTH IN FINAL START OF 2010 AT CHARLOTTE
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 18, 2010) - "Hot Rod" Fuller raced his ADMM-owned Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuit dragster to the No. 8 qualifying position on Saturday afternoon at zMax Dragway at Concord. Making his final start of the 2010 NHRA season, the seven-time Top Fuel winner used a qualifying-best lap of 3.893-seconds to qualify in the top half of the 16-car order.
Fuller positioned his Abu Dhabi/Yas Marina Circuit car in the No. 8 slot by using a tune-up from crew chief Lee Beard to race to the second quickest lap of Friday's opening qualifying session at 3.893 seconds at 311.49 mph. It was the fastest run of the session. On Saturday's opening lap, Fuller's car broke a throttle cable as he slowed to a run of 4.370 at 183.89. On his final qualifying attempt, Fuller posted the fourth quickest lap of the round with a solid effort at 3.925 at 308.43. The 20-time NHRA winner has started from the Nos. 3, 11, 9 and 8 positions in his four races (Sonoma, Denver, Indianapolis and Charlotte 2) this season. Fuller has yet to advance passed the quarterfinals in two tries at zMax Dragway.
"We should have made two really good runs in the heat of the day if it wasn't for that broken throttle cable on the first pass," Fuller said. "That's the second time that's happened to us in four races and not very common. We've got a really strong race car and we should be able to go some rounds on Sunday."
Fuller will square off against No. 9 qualifier and two-time NHRA Super Comp champion Shawn Langdon in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations at Noon (ET) on Sunday at zMax Dragway. Fuller is 1-0 against Langdon this season (Denver).
