Stivers blasts to provisional number two in Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. (September 17, 2010) - Rick Stivers' Trane-backed '06 Dodge Stratus Pro Mod blasted down the track and grabbed the provisional number two spot in the NHRA/GSA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at zMax Dragway in Charlotte on Friday.

After coming out of the trailer and struggling in the first qualifier, the Brad Anderson-tuned car delivered a blistering 5.941-second pass at 241.97 mph in the second round to take the provisional No. 2 with only one qualifier remaining.

"The amazing thing about that run," said Stivers after catching his breath, "is that there's even more left in her! It spun and shook a little, and I had to pedal it to keep it going straight - but, I'll take that '94 right now. I think Brad was even impressed with my driving on that run, and I'll tell you, it's hard to get that man to smile."

In his first attempt, the car shook hard at the gear change and shot left, forcing Stivers to abort the run and coast through the lights for a 7.137.

"First qualifier, I'm not really sure what happened. Maybe the track bit us a little because a lot of drivers were having trouble with that right lane in that round. Once the track got some more rubber down, both lanes were great - and we had one bad hotrod! I think Brad found the setup we used to win this event last year, and I'm hoping it stays around for a while, because I really want to take this race again.

"I know there's more in it, and we'll just keep pushing this Trane down the track! The best is yet to come," Stivers said.
