ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES SECOND AT CHARLOTTE 2

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 18, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the No. 2 qualifying position on Saturday afternoon at zMax Dragway at Concord. The two-time runner-up at the "Bellagio of drag strips," used a qualifying-best effort of 3.832-seconds on Friday evening to qualify second for the fourth time this season.

Brown, who entered the final day of qualifying for the third annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Carolinas Nationals in the provisional No. 2 position, lost traction on Saturday's first qualifying lap. The Matco Tools rail lost traction after the 330-foot mark as the 24-time NHRA winner slowed to a pass of 4.799 seconds at 152.81 mph. On his final attempt of qualifying, Brown's bright blue Matco Tools car smoked the tires at the step of the throttle. It is the 26th time that Brown will start from the No. 2 position and the second straight year at zMax Dragway.

"We struggled today a little bit, but we were seeing how far we could push it with our Matco Tools dragster here at DSR," Brown said. "We ran great last night, but that was fantasy land. It's going to be even hotter on Sunday and our goal was to see how far we could push it. We learned a lot and that will help us on race day."

Brown will face off against No. 15 qualifier Troy Buff in the opening round of eliminations at Noon on Sunday at zMax Dragway. Brown is 4-1 in his career against Buff.
