" Del Worsham is one of only four Funny Car drivers with four-wide racing experience. Last September at zMax Dragway, he was the No. 9 qualifier and lost to Jack Beckman in the first round of eliminations. As one of the drivers that went out in the first round, Worsham was selected to drive in the four-wide exhibition run later in the day giving him valuable experience for the inaugural NHRA 4-Wide Nationals. Worsham has never won at zMax Dragway.
" Worsham is 10th in the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car point standings; he trails ninth place Ashley Force Hood by 21 points. Worsham finished seventh in the 2009 season-ending standings. It was his first appearance in the Countdown to 1 NHRA Playoffs.
" Worsham was the No. 14 qualifier at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. earlier this month; he lost to Ron Capps in the first round of eliminations. Worsham won three races last season; he visited victory circle in Madison, Ill., Bristol, Tenn. and Richmond, Va.
" Worsham has 25 wins in his Funny Car career; he is seventh on the NHRA's all-time Funny Car wins list trailing sixth place by just one win.
Worsham prior to the 4-Wide Nationals:
"I had the opportunity to be a part of the four-wide exhibition run last fall in Charlotte, and it was interesting. There was definitely a new level of excitement for that run even though it was just an exhibition. So the national event with points on the line is going to be different but exciting; nobody really knows what it's gonna be like. Any team would love to be the winner of the inaugural 4-Wide Nationals. If we can pull it off, we'd get our Al-Anabi Racing Team in the history books and turn our season around at the same time.
"When I drove in the exhibition run, it was really no different because I was all the way in the far right lane, and the only other car I saw was the one next to me. What I did notice most was the excitement level among the fans and the other competitors. At the top end of the track everyone was so excited after the run because we were the first Funny Car drivers to do it. Since I was on the far right, I only noticed the car right next to me so I don't have the perspective of what it will be like in lanes two or three. I just know that being in the outside lane is pretty much normal and that we're headed into an interesting weekend."
