Richboro, Penn. - - Kenny Koretsky, from Richboro, Penn., announced today that Team Manager Rickie Smith, from King, N.C., has left Team Koretsky to accept a similar position with Ron Krisher. The change was amicable and Koretsky, Smith and Krisher were all involved in mutual discussions which began late Tuesday evening and culminated when the change was finalized Wednesday afternoon.
Smith will assume his new duties immediately, but under an agreement between the teams will remain as a consultant to Team Koretsky through the remainder of 2001. Team Koretsky will revert back to a one car operation with Koretsky, who has attempted to qualify at every event thus far in 2001, handling the driving duties and Eddie Guarnaccia, Jr., turning the wrenches.
"We hate to see Rickie (Smith) go but do not want to stand in the way of a career building opportunity," said Koretsky. The last year and a half has not only been fun, but both Eddie (Guarnaccia) and I have learned a great deal from Rickie. I am glad that the three of us (Ron Krisher, Rickie Smith, and Kenny Koretsky) were able to work out a program whereby Rickie will be able to continue to assist with our operation."
The position with Krisher became available to Smith when Mike Edwards left Krisher's operation to concentrate on a solo car team. Edwards had been driving a second car while serving as Krisher's crew chief.
"I wish Mike Edwards the best in any and all new endeavors that he undertakes," said Krisher. "I am excited about having Rickie back with our team. He brings much technical knowledge and has the ability to get a Pro Stock car down the track no matter the conditions. As they say, 'He's been there, done that.'"
Smith previously worked for Ron Krisher from the middle of the 1999 season through the end of that year. He joined Koretsky in March of 2000. Smith, who is currently 12th in the Winston Pro Stock point standings, will not be driving a Pro Stock car for Ron Krisher's team. He will only drive at those events that the Pro Mod cars run as an exhibition class, then in his own Pro Mod car.
Said Smith regarding the change, "First, I want to thank Kenny (Koretsky) for giving me the opportunity to drive on the NHRA Winston Pro Stock circuit. He gave me a driving opportunity when it seemed that my driving days were over. I am looking forward to overseeing the operation that Ron Krisher has established and to doing all I can to help his team achieve a championship."
The next race for both the Bucks County Kawasaki Camaro, driven by Kenny Koretsky, and the Eagle One Z-24 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Ron Krisher, will be the Pontiac Excitement Nationals presented by Summit Racing at National Trail Raceway, Kirkersville, Ohio, just outside Columbus. The event unfolds June 14-17.
