Unfortunately, this turn of events deprived several competitors of a final attempt to make the field for Sunday's final eliminations. Included among those was Century 21 Pro Stock Firebird pilot Tom Martino, whose best effort of 6.938 seconds, 197.83 mph found the New Jersey native just outside the top sixteen.

"Even though something outside of our control cost us one last shot to make the show, it was the same for everyone out there. Unfortunately, it took us until this morning to make a run that we could really tune from, so we really needed that last lap. Not only is it disappointing to miss the race, but I really would have liked to see how the changes we had made for the fourth session would have worked out, since this was our last race with this particular Century 21 Firebird.

"I plan to take to tomorrow off, and try to not even think about racing. After that, we have a busy winter ahead of us getting our Century 21 Grand Am ready to return for the Winternationals. I know it will be here before we know it, and we want to make sure to get off on the right foot."
