April 30 - Bruce Mullins Racing provided its share of excitement during final eliminations at the NHRA moto1.net Nationals at Richmond Sunday. After a scoring his first round win in national event competition Saturday, Bruce Mullins faced Jay Payne and his 5.60 Valvoline machine. Payne had lane choice based on a 5.67 winning elapsed time in the first round (compared to Bruce's 6.13 winning time). He used that lane choice right before the race, swapping lanes with Bruce at the starting line.

The distraction didn't affect Bruce, as he nailed Payne with a great .460 to .551 reaction time advantage. The Quaker State/racetel.com War Horse Mustang didn't like the new lane, however. It kept trying to cross the centerline, forcing Bruce to wrestle the car all the way down the track. Payne ran straight and true, and his 5.726 at 247.34 mph outdistanced Bruce's violent 6.367 at 179.23 mph effort. Reigning Federal Mogul Funny Car champion Frank Manzo went on to defeat Australian Steve Harker in a very good race.

Bruce Mullins Racing and the War Horse will next see action on Sunday, May 7, at a match race in Lynchburg, Virginia, followed by a match race at 75/80 Dragway in Monrovia, Maryland, on May 21.
