In the opening qualifying session for the NHRA Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals Troy Coughlin and his JEG'S Mail Order Chevy cavalier posted a run of 6.957 at 198.26 mph. The run was good enough to put him into the No. 11 position with three scheduled opportunities to improve.

"We have a good baseline to tune from," said Troy after the first session. "We just focused on making a good solid run from A to B."

The second qualifying session gave competitors in NHRA most competitive professional class drastically improved conditions. When Troy pulled into the water box he was on the outside looking in.

The team focused at the task and delivered. Troy improved by running a 6.936 at 197.45 mph. He took over the No. 12 spot after two sessions and will have two additional opportunities to further improve tomorrow (Saturday).

"We had a good baseline to tune from for the second session and it showed," said Troy. "Our goal tomorrow (Saturday) is to continue improving and make small measurable changes to help us on race day."
