Power back; should be able to run with big boys at Bristol.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Immediately following the last event in Houston, Team Koretsky pulled out of the Houston Raceway Park pit area and headed back for their shop in Pennsylvania. The engines were then rushed to the shop of engine builder Frank Iaconio to be refurbished and each piece refreshed or replaced.
"Today, according to dyno tests, we have the best engine power that we've had since the start of the season in February," said Koretsky, who resides in Richboro, Pa. "We now have two good pieces that are capable of running with the big boys. These engines should be able to qualify in the top half of the field. It's just a matter of making good runs at the right time.
"We expect these engines to run consistent through both Bristol and Atlanta. Then we'll bring them back and go through them again before Englishtown. For Team Koretsky, Englishtown is our big race. We always want to do good before the hometown fans.
The plan for now is that Koretsky's teammate Richie "the Kid" Stevens will handle the driving duties on the primary car for all events trough the remainder of the season. Koretsky will drive until time for the "western swing," then take a break, returning to the driver's seat when the schedule returns to Brainerd, Minn.
As his thoughts turned back to Bristol, Koretsky continued, "Let me tell you, we just might surprise a lot of teams and make our sponsors -- Valspar Refinishes, Cyclo Industries and Snap-on Tools -- realize the potential of Team Koretsky this weekend at Bristol. If we get qualified, I have no doubt we can win. Richie is one of the best drivers on the circuit and I'm no slouch myself. We've got all the people and the tools to do it. It just a matter of getting in.
"Once you get in, anyone can win. Just look at the number of winners Pro Stock has had so this year. I known I'm capable of winning once I get in and I know for damn sure if Richie gets in he can win.
"Personally, I love Bristol. I love racing at Thunder Valley. I've had good success at Bristol. I have been a runner-up in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock at Bristol. I've always had good luck in Bristol; that's one of my favorite tracks.
"The team is upbeat and ready to show what we can do this weekend in Bristol. Also, the entire team is real excited and looking forward to taking delivery of our new Jerry Bickel-built Chevy Cavalier immediately following Atlanta. We'll then test the new car and debut it at Englishtown. But right now we need to get the job in Bristol," concluded Koretsky.
