If Brad Jeter does not assume his position in the Showdown then first alternate would be Mike Coughlin (Indy 1999).=20 Last year at the inaugural Winston Showdown, Randy Daniels walked away with all the prize money when Brad Jeter red lit in the final round. "We are going to try and go up there to Bristol and do what we did last year," said Daniels, driver of the Bailey Trucking Chevrolet S-10. "Last year our win in Bristol helped to turn the season around for us. >From Bristol on we seemed to improve. We kind of stumbled at the last race in St. Louis. I am hoping that a good showing again this year in Bristol, can get us back on track." This will be 1998 Winston Champion Larry Kopp first trip to the Winston Showdown. "This will be the first time I have raced in the Showdown," said Kopp, driver of the Speedco Truck Lube Chevrolet S-10. "I'm real glad that I am already seeded for this event. The competition for the two open spots is going to brutal. As long as you are in the field, you have a chance to win. Being able to say I won the Winston Showdown you be a real thrill for me." After his win at the last race in St. Louis, John Coughlin driver of the Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10, will enter the race seeded number 2.=20 "Being pre-qualified for the Winston Showdown and fresh off of a win takes a little bit of pressure off," stated Coughlin. "You cannot let up for a second in Pro Stock Truck. There are plenty of strong teams and good drivers. I am really looking forward to racing at Bristol Dragway. Winston has done so much for the Pro Stock Truck class and our job is to put on a great show for Winston and the fans."
Qualifying at the Second Annual Winston Showdown begins on Friday July 7, and continues on Saturday July 8. Eliminations will take place on Sunday July 9 at 11:00 AM EST.
