Bristol, Tenn. (Pre-race) - This week Brian "Lump" Self heads to Bristol, Tenn. for the Second Annual Winston Showdown. Lump, and his Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck team, will attempt to qualify for one of the two open spots at this special all-star event sponsored by Winston. The Winston Showdown has a special format where six of the drivers in the eight car field are seeded according to past national event wins and past Winston champions, leaving the last two slots on the eliminations ladder open. Those drivers who are not seeded may try and qualify for a chance at the $15,000 purse. "I feel good about going to Bristol," said Lump. "I feel like have a very good chance of qualifying for one of the open spots. We have been qualifying well lately and all the tough guys like Panella, Daniels, and Coughlin are already in the show. So, I feel pretty confident that I can take one of those open spots. Self is the owner of Lump Cylinder Heads and is know throughout the Pro Stock Truck ranks for the horsepower he makes. His cylinder head research and development program has not only kept him qualified in the top half of the field this year, but has benefited a number of other racers. "We will be trying a different motor in Bristol. It will have a totally different head package on it. This motor makes real good power on the dyno, and is something I have been wanting to try out for a long time. This will be its debut, and I am looking forward to seeing what it will do. "The last couple races we have been qualifying in the top half of the field. We have been only .030 of a second out of the number 1 position, so we are right there within striking distance of the quick guys. I believe this new motor combination will get us even closer to Bob (Panella) and Randy (Daniels). Then if I can do my job and drive like I know I can, who knows we could leave Bristol a winner!" Qualifying at the Second Annual Winston Showdown begins on Friday July 7, and continues on Saturday July 8. Eliminations will take place on Sunday July 9 at 11:00 AM EST.
