DIXON RACES TO NO. 7 QUALIFYING SPOT AT THUNDER VALLEY WITH JUST ONE QUALIFYING ATTEMPT AFTER RAIN SHOWERS

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 30, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon used his only qualifying run of the weekend to race his Miller Lite dragster to the seventh qualifying spot Saturday at Bristol Dragway after recording a run of 4.685 seconds at 310.34 mph.

After seeing both of Friday's scheduled qualifying sessions aborted due to rain showers, Mother Nature alleviated for a few hours, allowing the NHRA pros to make one qualifying pass on Saturday afternoon where Dixon and Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite/Ameriquest race team recorded a pass of 4.685 at 310.34 to claim the seventh qualifying spot. Soon after the completion of Saturday's first scheduled qualifying session, the skies again opened, canceling the fourth and final session. NHRA officials decided to set the 16-car field after just one qualifying run.

"We had a soft setup in the car so that it would get down the track and we could get in the show," Dixon said. "We wanted to make a stronger run on the second pass, but we didn't get that opportunity. Now, I just hope it doesn't rain on Sunday."

For the second consecutive year at Bristol Dragway, Dixon will face off against Doug Herbert in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations, which are scheduled to begin at noon (ET) on Sunday. Dixon has a 19-5 career record against Herbert. They have yet to meet in 2005.
