Forecast wrong, Dixon is right on.

BRISTOL, TENN. (April 25) - "A cluster of strong thunderstorms will move across northeast Tennessee...producing frequent lightning strikes, heavy downpours and strong gusty winds." Today's forecast for the 3rd Annual Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals. However, the only blue cloud that appeared would be one with four wheels. The Miller Lite Dragster qualified No. 2 after the first day of racing.

The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point's leader Larry Dixon used a lap of 4.532 seconds (323.74mph) to secure the No. 2 spot headed into early Saturday qualifying. The Don Prudhomme Miller Lite Dragster ended the day with an identical lap time of 4.532 seconds (323.74 mph).

"The first run was defiantly the better of the two," said Dixon. "The car didn't accelerate as smooth on the last run as it did on the first. Early on in the run, it just lost the ET. But hey, I'm just happy to be qualified."

And for that matter, everyone is happy it didn't rain.

Catch ESPN2 tomorrow Saturday April 26, from 10-11PM. (ET) for early round qualifying. And on Sunday, April 27th NHRA 2Day, airing at 9:30-10PM. Followed by early round eliminations from 6-7PM and late round eliminations from 12:30-2:30AM.
