Humphreys Advances to Semifinals at Thunder Valley
Justin Humphreys advanced to the semifinals of Sunday's O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. It was the second time the Pro Stock rookie won two rounds of competition.
Both of the RaceRedi Motorsports driver's first two races were decided at the starting line.
Humphreys, the No. 13th qualifier, won his opening round when Jason Line fouled away his chances by leaving .022-second before the green light. Humphreys drove his Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO to a 6.876-second, 201.91-mph win.
In the quarterfinals, Humphreys won with a 6.857 at 202.24 when Kurt Johnson also had a red-light start.
"It was good to get to the semifinals," said a smiling Humphreys, who was competing in his fifth event this season. "It is hard enough to qualify in Pro Stock, so to go rounds we will take it any way we can get it." His other semifinals appearance came at St. Louis in May.
Eventual race winner Jeg Coughlin ended Humphreys' day in the semifinals with a run of 6.810 seconds to a 6.852 at 202.39.
"It would've been nice to get to the finals but we just have keep doing our job and keep moving forward. Maybe we can do it again next week," added Humphreys.
