Jeg Coughlin no. 6 after two qualifying sessions.

In the first of the four scheduled qualifying sessions Jeg Coughlin Jr posted a 6.979 at 198.85 mph and landed in the No. 19 slot. The run was impressive and turned a lot of heads in the staging lane given the fact his Chevy Cavalier darted toward the wall as it launched from the starting line. Jeg stayed with it and slowly drove the 1300-plus horsepower factory hot rod to the center of the groove in the right lane just before he crossed the finish line.

"That is not how we like to start our weekend," explained Jeg. "I knew we needed as much data as we could get, so I stayed with it. If the car would have felt out of control to me in the seat I would have shut off. The rear tires maintained good balance given where we were on the track and I was in control."

In the second session Jeg drove his JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier to a 6.923 at 198.26 mph. The run was an improvement and he moved all the way up to the No. 6 position.

"We obviously fixed the problem that plagued us in the first session," commented Jeg. "We did not want to cross the line in the second session of being to aggressive. I think we did just what we wanted to, go out and make a solid run. We now have a great baseline to improve from."
