BRISTOL, Tenn - Federal Mogul Dragster title contender Jay Meyer kept his title hopes alive with a dominating win at this past weekend's Winston Showdown at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee. Meyer qualified No. 1 with a 5.508/258.07 and ran low elapsed time of every round going into the final where he defeated red hot Dave Hirata. Meyer won the race, staying in the 5.50's with a 5.577/250.13 to Hirata's cylinder dropping 6.347/212.86.

Meyer defeated Cherissa Griffis in the first round, then had a bye in the second, before defeating Division 4 rival Troy Buff in the semifinals.

Meyer said, "We knew after seeing Santos pick up wins in Columbus and Sears Point, that we really needed to go somewhere and win. After the "Columbus Fiasco" where we blew up everything we had, we went back to Tom Conway's shop in Seminole, Oklahoma and put together two new motors, went back to the basics, and everything just fell together."

"That 5.50 at 258 mph in qualifying really amazed me. We barely ran that much mph with the "C" model PSI earlier in the year at sea level, and then to run that much mph at the altitude here with the "D" model, I think we have found something."

"We're going to go home, re-evaluate everything, and make a decision on if we are going to go to Denver next weekend or not. Its going to be pretty tough, but we are not ruling it out yet."
