Past history in Anderson's favor as he prepares for Bristol
BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 21, 2006) -- Bristol Dragway is the closest track that Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, can call his home track. History from five previous events held here attests to the fact that the Duluth, Minn.-born, Charlotte, N.C.-transplant has done well on the quarter-mile in Bristol.
Anderson, who has won three consecutive NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championships, won this event in 2001 over Jim Yates and again in 2004 over teammate Jason Line. Also, in 2004 he claimed the number one qualifying position.
Thus far in the 2006 season, Anderson, who leads the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings, has been the No. 1 qualifier at three of the first five events. In fact, a Summit Racing Pontiac GTO driven by either Anderson or Line has been the No. 1 qualifier at the last 11 races dating all the way back to last September's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. During that 11 race span, Anderson has qualified No. 1 seven times, and Line four times.
Also this season, although he has advanced to the final round of eliminations twice, Anderson has been one of five different Pro Stock winners through five races. "All of the teams continue to improve their game to meet the professional levels it takes to compete in this class. I believe that there are a lot of contenders for the championship this year," said Anderson. "By my personal standards, we have struggled some over the last three races. Our team works very hard to try and maximize our performance. We will continue to try and work all of the kinks out of our program. I look to Bristol to return our program back to the positive side."
Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two sessions on Friday, April 28, scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m. and concludes with two additional sessions on Saturday, April 29, at 12:30 and 3 p.m. Anderson begins his quest for the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, April 30, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. *All times are local Bristol time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. *
