David Baca qualifies in top half of field in Thunder Valley.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 26, 2003) -- Rounding into form just in time for five races in the next six weeks, David Baca, driver of the Henkelman & Baca-owned, American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage Top Fuel Dragster, qualified in the top half of the Top Fuel field for the third annual NHRA Mac Tool Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in the mountains of eastern Tennessee.

A second generation Top Fuel driver, Baca from Brentwood, Calif., covered the quarter-mile track in 4.599 seconds, good for eighth on the qualifying ladder. "It's great to be back in the top half of the field, especially for the team. Crew chief, Johnny West, and the crew have worked hard to get our performance back to the point we were several races ago. We've been trying a lot of new parts and equipment and it looks like Johnny has us on the right side of the curve. Tomorrow it will be the rookie against the veteran driver. I'm looking forward to that," said Baca.

In tomorrow's first round Baca will square off against his former driver Cory McClenathan. McClenathan qualified ninth with a pass of 4.601 seconds at 325.69 mph. This will be the first match up for the pair in head-to-head competition.

Thus far, in five races this season, the Henkelman & Baca-owned, American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/YP.Net-sponsored dragster has been to two semifinals and Baca currently is seventh in the NHRA Top Fuel POWERade Drag Racing Series point standings.
