GILLIG HOPING TO STEP IT UP ON SATURDAY
Brainerd, MN Friday, August 20: Tony Gillig and the, Shanahan Dry Wall Services, Wayne's Pizza, Rick Jones Pro Stock Olds made a great turn around during the second session of qualifying on Friday at the Colonel's Truck Assessories NHRA Nationals. Gillig came up from the 22 position first session to end the day in the 15 spot.
"First pass out of the box today we shook the tires. We put a new clutch disc in the car in Sonoma for first round of finals against Kurt and shook right off the line." "So, we adjusted the clutch again for the second session of qualifying today and made a pretty good run."
"We missed it down on the 60ft mark. We were 23, 7 for speed & 13 in ET with a 705.3 @195.00 MPH. If we had made a better run on the front half of the track we would be in the middle of the pack. My Dad/Crew Chief & I are still (always) trying different things and are sneaking up on something we've been working on. We will know Saturday morning if it works."
"I have to mention this is a special weekend for me. Jim Wick and his son Jeff are here to compete in this event. Jeff drives the Pro Stock MatchMaker Dodge Daytona. Jim is the President of the MPSA (Midwest Pro Stock Association). I got my start in drag racing in the MPSA. The time I spent racing in the MPSA was my leg up in this sport that launched me into the IHRA and now here with the NHRA. I'm really grateful for the MPSA and Jim's dedication to the excellence of the sport."
