Howard looking to rebound in Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn. - After a weekend she would just as soon forget, NHRA Federal Mogul Dragster driver Shelly Howard heads into this weekend's Colonel's Truck Accessory Nationals, in Brainerd, Minn., looking to put the past behind her, and once again reassert herself as one of the leaders in the class.

Last weekend, Howard, from Tulsa, Okla., lost in round one at a Division 5 event in Scribner, Neb., that could have clinched the Division 4 Championship for her. Howard contends that just as you have to not be overconfident when you come into a new race hot off a win, you can't let a tough loss get you down, either.

"I just have to do my job," said Howard. "I can't let what happened in the previous weekend effect what happens this weekend. I just have to stay focused. That's the only way you can do it."

Howard also welcomes the opportunity to get her Tom Conway tuned Blown Alcohol Dragster back to a track that has the potential to hold some solid numbers in the 5.5 to 5.4 second zone. Scribner was a marginal race track, while her previous event, Denver, was slower than normal due to the high altitude.

"Hopefully we can go back to running like normal," stated Howard. "We have some new clutch parts, so that is giving us a small learning curve to figure out where we are with the new parts. I just hope we can have everything dialed back in here."

Qualifying begins on Friday with sessions at 1:30 and 4:45 p.m. for the Federal Mogul Dragsters.  Stay tuned to InsideFMRacing.com for the latest Federal Mogul racing news.
