BRAINERD, Minn. - After the first day of qualifying at this weekend's Colonel's Truck Accessory Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., Federal Mogul Funny Car racer Marc White is currently qualified second in the Etterman Racing 2001 Firebird.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., enters the event hot off of a three race win streak, including the Sears Craftsman Nationals in St. Louis, and two Division 3 events. White ran a 5.939 at 242.00 mph during the day's first session, then improved to a 5.820 at 245.72 mph during the evening session to place him second in the field.
"On the first run, we kind of underestimated the race track," said White.
"We were a little bit weak on the set up and shook the tires a little bit. We came back and got after it, and went a 5.82 at 245, so we're pretty happy with that. There's some room for improvement, and I'm pretty sure that we can step the car up a little."
White and team are pleased with today's results, and may skip tomorrow morning's final qualifying session. They feel they should be able to step up into the 5.7 second zone for the afternoon's first round of eliminations.
"There's a short field up here, so we're not sure if they are going to give us a third qualifier or not," White commented. "If we do run it, we'll definitely try to run faster. I think we can run in the .70's with the car. I short shifted on the .82, so I'm pretty confident we can make it run faster."
"If we make the qualifier, we'll do that [step on it]," continued White.
"After that, we'll just try to be consistent, go rounds, and keep going."
The Federal Mogul Funny Cars will have one final qualifying session at 11:45 a.m. First round of eliminations will follow at 3 p.m. Stay tuned to InsideFMRacing.com for the latest news from the world of Federal Mogul racing.
