BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 15, 2004) - Two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon held serve on Sunday, remaining in sixth place in the POWERade points standings, at Brainerd International Raceway.

Dixon, a two-time winner of the Brainerd event, was first out of the gate behind the wheel of his Miller Lite dragster racing neck-and-neck with first round opponent Doug Herbert, before the Miller Lite dragster lost traction allowing Herbert to pass by and score the round win. Herbert raced to a run of 4.878 seconds at 285.17 mph, while the Miller car coasted to a performance of 5.973 at 149.25.

"The last four races have been a learning curve for us with all the recent rule changes," Dixon said. "This weekend, we had some issues with the race track and we just need to learn how to adapt to things a little better."

ESPN2 will televise three hours of final eliminations coverage from the Lucas Oil Nationals at 7 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Aug. 15.

The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event is the 17th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals, Aug. 20-22, at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn. The Miller Lite crew will regroup and head south to Tennessee for the Memphis event. Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the winner's circle of the Memphis race in 2002.
