Scott Kalitta leads Team Kalitta qualifying in Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn., (Aug. 11, 2007) -- Scott Kalitta, driver of the DHL Toyota Solara Nitro Funny Car, will begin tomorrow's final eliminations from the top-half of the 16-car Funny Car field at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd Int'l Raceway in Brainerd, Minn.

Scott, the No. 7 qualifier (4.822 seconds, 316.45 mph), will race No. 10 qualifier Jeff Arend, 4.865 sec., 320.28 mph, when the nitro-fueled floppers take to the BIR track for Sunday's eliminations.

Scott's Cousin Doug qualified his Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster in the No. 9 (4.631 sec., 325.22 mph) position for Top Fuel eliminations. When the Top Fuel class, drag racing's quickest and fastest class, begins tomorrow's racing day, Doug will race No. 8 qualifier (4.617 sec., 298.34 mph) Larry Dixon in the opening round.

Native Australian Dave Grubnic, driver of the Zantrex-3 Top Fueler, qualified his 8,000-horsepower machine in the No. 14 slot, 4.663 sec., 323.35 mph. Grubnic will begin his day of quarter-mile racing against the No. 3 qualifier Whit Bazemore, 4.582 sec., 323.58 mph.

Hillary Will, driver of the Kalitta Motorsports-managed, Ken Black-owned KB Racing LLC Top Fueler, qualified in the No. 11 position for eliminations.

Sunday's final eliminations begin at 11:00 a.m.(CT).
