GOODYEAR-SHOD CARS WIN FIVE IN NHRA AT BRAINERD
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 12, 2007) -- Three classic final round pairings highlighted the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway and Goodyear tires were a big part of the story.
Drivers racing on Goodyear Eagles won five classes in the Brainerd event, the best total among tiremakers. That total, added to the previous total from the 2007 season, bring Goodyear's total to an industry-best 74.
Brandon Bernstein (in Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock), Spencer Massey (Top Alcohol Dragster) and Dean Carter (Competition Eliminator) all won on Goodyear tires.
Bernstein collected his fifth win of the season by beating former Top Fuel champ Larry Dixon. Bernstein and Dixon were tied for second place in the standings before the final round. Dixon has raced Bernstein or his father, Kenny Bernstein, in the finals many times before.
Force collected the 125th victory of his career by beating Kenny Bernstein, the former Top Fuel and Funny Car champ. The last time the two met in a final round was in 1988.
Coughlin beat Greg Anderson to collect his 50th career win. Coughlin's achievement came a race after Anderson did the same thing.
Massey beat Morgan Lucas in the TAD final, matching two cars on Goodyear tires. Massey recorded the category's top speed for the event, 276.13, in the final. Cars equipped with Goodyear Eagles have won 10 of 11 in the category in national events this season and have won 16 of the last 17 overall.
Carter's victory was Goodyear's sixth in Competition Eliminator this season.
