Densham loves Minnesota
BRAINERD, Minn. (August 8) - Funny Car driver Gary Densham has had more final round appearances at Brainerd International Raceway than any other track on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing tour. Maybe that's why the Torco Racing Fuels / Racebricks Collectibles driver is so excited about this weekend's Lucas Oil Nationals event in Brainerd.
"It's taken us most of the season to get back on track with our clutch development and the new Impala SS body," Densham said. "Our program is finally coming together and it couldn't happen at a better time or place."
Densham's first round win in Sonoma two weeks ago boosted the team's morale before a one week break in the busy NHRA schedule.
"We may have been off from the NHRA but we still raced at an event in Michigan," Densham said. "We have to take every opportunity we can to improve and you can't do that by sitting at home."
Densham feels like a Minnesotan while visiting the Land of a Thousand Lakes and loves the experience afforded at the infamous "zoo."
"It's a darn good thing this place has the campground area it has," Densham said. Otherwise, we'd all be staying in Minneapolis. And let's not forget the extra entertainment value here, it is like no other. Where else can you see motorized couches and commodes or a punk rock Elvis? Only at the zoo."
Densham looks to improve his performance this weekend and make up some ground in the points battle before the end of the season.
"There's no doubt that we're not where we'd like to be in points," Densham said. "If the stars and planets all line up for us this weekend, like we're hoping, we'll be thanking them and all the fans from the zoo Sunday afternoon."
