Kalitta looks to turn momentum into a win in Brainerd.

Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 13, 2002 - Momentum in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is a highly valued commodity. The Mac Tools/Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragster team hopes to cash in on the momentum they have accumulated in the last few races for a win at the Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 15-18 at Brainerd International Raceway.

"The past three races have turned our season around," said driver Doug Kalitta. "We got to the finals in Sonoma, and that was an emotional win for the Mac Tools team. Even though we took a runner-up finish, we learned so much about our racecar there and in the two races before Sonoma in Denver and Seattle.

"Connie (Kalitta, crew chief) and Jim (Oberhofer, co-crew chief) have been working diligently all season to get our Mac Tools dragster to the high level of performance it is at now. We are going to be tough to beat the rest of the 2002 season."

Not one of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes or the possibility of spotting the area's mythical and legendary lumberjack, Paul Bunyan will distract Team Kalitta from reaching their goals in Brainerd.

"We are so focused on winning right now. I don't think anyone on this Mac Tools team would notice a giant blue ox if it strolled down the center of the track. We are only concentrating on win lights," said Kalitta with a grin.

Before he climbs into the Mac Tools dragster in Brainerd, Kalitta will be signing autographs 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dundee, Mich. Cabela's store as part of Cabela's Fan Appreciation Week. Cabela's, the "World's Foremost Outfitter" has been outfitting the world with hunting, fishing and outdoor gear for almost 40 years.
