'PEANUT' CREASY PREPARED FOR BRAINERD BLAST
Brainerd, Minn. - NHRA Funny Car driver Dale Creasy Jr. is a fun-loving guy who is very fortunate to be racing this weekend at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn. His easy going, roll-with-the-punches attitude has made the two-time IHRA Funny Car world champion a fan favorite and a hit with the infamous Brainerd International Raceway "Zoo". But, for Creasy Jr. the road to racing at this weekend's NHRA event has been anything but a walk-in-the-park.
After a tragic and near fatal accident suffered during the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta Canada in 2008, Creasy, from Beeler, Ill., was determined to return to the seat of his race car. The accident, which shattered his left leg, was caused by a catastrophic transmission explosion. After 13 surgeries, months of painful rehabilitation and support from thousands of passionate drag racing fans, Creasy returned to the seat of the Creasy Family Motorsports Fuel Funny car at a match-race in Utah in late 2009. The driver affectionately known as "Peanut" successfully completed his NHRA safety certification, passed the FAA physical with flying colors and strapped into his 8,000 horse-power Flopper for one reason; to entertain the fans.
"See those thousands of people out there," Creasy said while pointed to the grandstands, "they are the reason why I am back here driving. We are an entertainment for them; they support us, our sponsors and keep us employed. I had to come back. We've raced in three NHRA events so far this season and have qualified for both. Racing has been an important part of my life and I am looking forward to mixing it up with the racers and fans this weekend in Brainerd."
Creasy has competed at three other NHRA events this season, but encountered some tuning gremlins in both efforts. Fortunately, a group of well known Funny Car tuners have assisted Creasy get a hold of his mechanical issues and the TEK-PAK / Beaver Shredding Nitro Funny Car is ready to produce some representative performance at the Lucas Oil Nationals.
"A few of my buddies over at John Force Racing came over to our pit area in Englishtown and took a look at our run data," noted Creasy. "They found some simple issues I had overlooked. Sometimes I tend to over-think things, heck most of us racers do. But the guys over at JFR have been friends of mine for years and without their help, we might not be out here this weekend. I offer my sincere thanks to them for their assistance. I also need to thank TEK-PAK, Beaver Shredding, Stevenson Crane and VSIHP.COM for their sponsorship and support of me."
Creasy will begin qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals on Friday with two scheduled qualifying sessions. He will have two more attempts to qualify for the 16-car show on Saturday. Final eliminations begin Sunday afternoon at Brainerd International Raceway at 11:00 AM local time.
