Bradshaw & Meyer two for two in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. - The 'dynamic duo' of Alan Bradshaw and Randy Meyer made it two for two at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan., this year by winning this weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals held there. The event marked their third win in a row and fourth consecutive trip to the finals.
Bradshaw, a practicing chiropractor from Odessa, Texas, qualified the Randy Meyer Racing A/Fuel Dragster second in the field with a 5.321 second elapsed time at 254.38 mph. In round one, he defeated Mitch Myers with a 5.673 at 255.48 mph and then took out Shelly Howard with a 5.378 at 259.26 mph. In the semifinals, the team found the 5.20's again with a 5.294 at 269.89 mph to defeat Todd Datweiler.
Bradshaw's final round opponent would be No. 1 qualifier Bill Reichert, shaping a rematch of last year's final round where Reichert was the victor. This year's event was all Bradshaw & Meyer as "Quickdraw" Bradshaw took the holeshot and never looked back, running a 5.285 at 262.64 mph to defeat Reichert's right-there 5.292 at 267.96 mph. The win was the first national event title for Bradshaw and second for Meyer.
"The win this weekend was a real testament to this team," said Bradshaw. "We had to overcome a lot of adversity to get to the winner's circle. Randy was ill for much of the weekend and was in the hospital. He tuned the car over the phone. He's doing a lot better and on the road to recovery. We have such a great group of guys working on this car that he's trained so well, things went flawlessly even in his absence."
"It's really great for us to win, and to win here," Bradshaw continued. "This is Randy's home event, and to win both the divisional and national event here just puts the icing on the cake. We're also thrilled to get all of our sponsors 1-888-CAR WRECK, Go-DragRacing.com, MAR Leasing, Smokes4Less, Meyer Truck Center, Valvoline and Bradshaw Chiropractic Center in a national event winner's circle as well. Also, I want to thank the Lucas family for their support and friendship. They are good people who are a real asset to NHRA drag racing."
The win moves Bradshaw to third place in national points standings. The team's next event will be the Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn., June 6-8.
