Tasca confident heading into Pomona.
Bob Tasca III is confident that last year’s mid-season clutch and setup changes and top 10 runs in the pre-season test last month in Palm Beach, Fla., will equate to a strong, maybe even championship-caliber, showing in his seventh season on the NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car circuit. The green light goes on this weekend at the Circle K NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.
The owner/driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang said he wasn’t happy with his car’s performance in the early part of 2013, which led to changing his clutch manufacturer and going to a different set up for first Las Vegas race.
“It took us a little while to put all the pieces together and it really all came together for us in Chicago when we were the first Ford in the threes with a 3.988 and only the third car to do that in Funny Car history,” Tasca said. “We really hit our stride on the West Coast swing and were the No. 1 point-getter during that part of the schedule, reaching the finals in Denver and Seattle.”
Tasca admits that later in the season things didn’t go his team’s way and that, along with the time it took to adapt to the changes, kept him out of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Not being in the title chase, however, afforded Team Tasca the luxury of real-world experimentation that allowed him to take the car off the truck at pre-season testing and post two top 10 times.
“It was the best opening test session we’ve ever had,” Tasca said. “Most of what we wanted to test worked as planned. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum in Pomona. I’m excited about the prospects for the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car this season. Our goal is to win the championship.”
