Scott Palmer not happy with DNQ, but pleased with progress in Top Fuel category.

BAYTOWN, Texas, April 13, 2003 - Scott Palmer was alternately dejected and determined Sunday. Dejected because he did not make the 16-car Top Fuel field for the O'Reilly's Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, but determined to work harder to make sure he'll join that elite number at Bristol, Tenn., site of the next NHRA POWERade Series event.

Palmer and his O'Reilly Auto Parts/ACDelco-Simple Green Top Fuel team were 20th when the smoke cleared Saturday evening in their first foray into Top Fuel competition, but the Highland, Mo., driver felt they'd made progress during the two days of qualifying.

"We really wanted to get into the field because O'Reilly was sponsoring this race, too," Palmer said. "But this was our first race and we know it definitely helped us. This was the first time we've been able to make all four qualifying sessions and get some things done.

"We did run three 4.8s (seconds) in a row, with a best of 4.837," he continued. "We didn't tear up many parts so we'll probably test here Monday before we go home, sort out everything and head for Bristol." The Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway opens with qualifying April 25-26 and concludes with eliminations Sunday.
