Whisnant to sit out Houston.

HOUSTON, Texas -- Today at the 16th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, Mark Whisnant driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet Cavalier failed to make the Pro Stock field.

In the Saturday morning session of qualifying Whisnant drove his Cavalier to a career best 6.772 / 202.18 mph, but to would not be enough to make the quickest and fastest Pro Stock field in NHRA history. Whisnant would end the day in the 17th position on the outside looking in.

"It is pretty discouraging to run your best ET ever and still not have enough to make the field," said Whisnant. "We are only .004 of a second behind (Number 16 qualifier) JR. Carr, as close as we might be, we are still not racing on Sunday.

"Right now we are having problems getting the car to run on the top end. Our bottom end numbers are phenomenal, and then everything goes to hell on the top end. We will not be racing tomorrow, but we are going to stay and work on the car, then test on Monday.

"We know we have a problem, and we need to find it and correct it. Right now, all we can do is get to work, and come back and try it again in Bristol. That's all we can do."
