HOUSTON, Texas -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, has a soft spot in his heart when it comes to racing in Houston. It was in 1998, at Houston Raceway Park, where Whisnant earn his first national event win behind the wheel of a Super Gas car. Since that time, he has always looks forward to his spring visit to the lone star state.

"Every year I look forward to coming to Houston," said Whisnant. "Houston Raceway Park holds good memories for me. I won my first national event in Super Gas here, so this place will always be special to me.

"I am really looking forward to coming to Houston this year because this is a great racetrack for Pro Stock cars. We will be running at sea level, and Houston Raceway Park always gives us a great surface to race on. Depending on the weather, it should be very fast this weekend. If the weather is cool, we could possibly see records broken.

"The thing about Houston is that the racetrack stays good no matter what the weather does. It really does not throw you any curve balls. At this race, we will not have to fight marginal conditions, which will give us a more level playing field. This will make qualifying a battle all by its self.

"We have some momentum coming off the Las Vegas race. We hope to build on that, but first we have to qualify. This weekend our plan is to take it one step at a time, one session at a time.

"Usually in Houston there is not a bad session all weekend, so it will be very important for us to improve with every pass. I do not think that will be a problem for this RW Performance / Snap-On Tools team. My crew chiefs, Gary and Markus, are now very comfortable with this Cavalier. They are fine tuning this car, and pulling more and more out of it. They learn something with every pass, and that is what is going to make a difference for us this weekend in Houston."

Qualifying at the 16th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals will take place on Friday April 11, and Saturday April 12. Eliminations begin at 11:00 AM CST on Sunday April 13.
