BAYTOWN, Texas - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Marc White is looking for 'new' success during this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Despite qualifying No. 1 at this event last year, and running solid numbers early in the year, White is hoping to perfect a 'new' combination that he feels will put the Etterman Racing Team a step ahead once it reaches it's potential.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., feels that his new combination will cure some of the team's problems that he feels has kept the team from winning this season.
"We decided to work on a new combination for the car in Houston," said White. "We're going to have it on for the first qualifier, whereas we usually come into a race with our normal set up. We really don't know what to expect. We spent a lot of time coming up with the best amount of changes to make to the car, but you never know until you get to the races. We'll see what happens, but it will be completely different on the first qualifier than it has ever been."
With hot and humid conditions forecasted for this weekend's event, White feels that it will take mid to low 5.7 second elapsed times to get the job done.
"It looks like it is going to be a little bit hotter than it usually is this time of the year in Houston," cited White. "You might see a high 5.60, but I think that mid 5.70's is what it is going to take to be a player. I know we have enough car to do that, we just have to make the right adjustments. We don't feel that we have been making the right adjustments this year, so far. We are just trying to find a combination to make the car more friendly, and be more competitive from run to run."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the Top Alcohol Funny Cars, with sessions at 2 and 5 p.m. They will receive one final qualifying session Saturday morning followed by round one of eliminations in the afternoon. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for daily updates and photo highlights of the action from Houston.
