DIXON RACES TO FIFTH QUALIFYING SPOT AT HOUSTON WITH 4.515-SECOND RUN ON SATURDAY

BAYTOWN, Texas (April 9, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon qualified Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite dragster in the No. 5 position Saturday at Houston Raceway Park after blasting his dragster to a performance of 4.515 seconds at 326.71 mph.

Dixon entered Saturday's final two qualifying sessions in the No. 9 spot before he used a tune-up from veteran crew chief Dick LaHaie to clock the quickest elapsed time of Saturday's opening qualifying session as the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail stopped the H.R.P. timers in 4.515 seconds at 326.71 mph to earn Dixon and the Miller-backed crew the No. 5 qualifying spot. Dixon's dragster overpowered the hot race track on its final qualifying effort and coasted to a run of 5.972 at 148.49.

"I'm very happy that we improved on Saturday," Dixon said. "We made a great run in that first session to get us into the top five. We're racing a strong car in the first round, now we just need to take advantage of our position."

Dixon will face Australia native David Grubnic in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations, which kick-off at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday morning at the Texas drag strip. Dixon, a 35-time NHRA winner, is 13-4 in his career against Grubnic. Dixon is a two-time winner at Houston Raceway Park.
