DIXON SITS NINTH AFTER FRIDAY QUALIFYING AT HOUSTON RACEWAY PARK

BAYTOWN, Texas (April 8, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon raced his Miller Lite dragster to the No. 9 qualifying position Friday after the 35-time NHRA winner powered to a pass of 4.584 seconds at 323.43 mph at Houston Raceway Park.

Dixon, who posted a runner-up finish at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway three weeks ago, used a tune-up from crew chief Dick LaHaie to stop the H.R.P. timers in 4.584 at 323.43 on his opening qualifying effort. Dixon posted the second quickest run of the first qualifying session. Under the lights Friday evening, the Miller Lite rail shook the tires as Dixon coasted to a pass of 10.230 at 83.23. His 4.584-second pass places him ninth in the order with two qualifying sessions remaining.

"I was really happy with the first pass on Friday where we were second quick of the session," Dixon said. "The car shook on the second pass and we had to abort the run. I'm disappointed about that because we fell from second to ninth. It's critical for us to improve our position on Saturday."

Dixon and the Miller Lite team eye a spot in the top half of the Top Fuel order when qualifying continues Saturday with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) at H.R.P. Dixon is a two-time winner at the Baytown track.
