TOLIVER OUT IN HOUSTON FIRST ROUND

BAYTOWN, Texas (March 30, 2008) -- The last thing that Jerry Toliver expected in the first round of eliminations at the NHRA Spring Nationals was to smoke the tires on the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car he drives for Don Schumacher Racing. But he didn't go five feet before the rear tires lost traction and he was defeated by Del Worsham, ending his weekend prematurely. Worsham claimed the victory with a 4.922-second pass at 313.22 mph to Toliver's 12.697/77.25.

"I feel terrible for my crew, team owner Don Schumacher and my sponsor Rockstar Energy Drink," said Toliver following his early exit. "It was very disappointing. I really thought we had a chance to go some rounds today. It's not because of a lack of effort or knowledge or desire. We just don't have any racing luck right now.

"We'll get things turned around," Toliver added. "The Rockstar team is dedicated and we'll stay here and test tomorrow. This has never happened to us before. It blew the tires off right at the hit of the throttle. No shake, no nothing. So there was no chance for anything. There's no mechanical reason that we've found and we haven't changed anything from the laps we've made this weekend, so it should have repeated, but it didn't. We just want to make sure tomorrow that it doesn't do it again. We'll test here on Monday and then get ready to go to Vegas.

"It's early in the season, so I'm not going to beat myself up too much on this deal. When the Rockstar Energy Drink Funny Car gets good it's going to get real good."

Toliver is currently tied in 15th with his teammate Ron Capps in the Funny Car point standings.
