Herbert and the SnaponFranchise.com Team Have Strong Day, Advance to Final Four
BAYTOWN, Texas (March 30, 2008) Doug Herbert and the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel team had the best showing of the 2008 season to date at the NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
After qualifying in the No. 2 position, the SnaponFranchise.com team won the Full Throttle Pit Crew award, given to the pit crew with the best and most consistent performance throughout qualifying.
The first round of racing action pitted Herbert against Bob Vandergriff. Herbert piloted the SnaponFranchise.com dragster to a 4.58 second finish at 316.52 mph, besting his opponents 5.67 at 220.12.
Quarterfinal action brought Tony Schumacher to the line against a hungry Herbert. First off the line with a stellar reaction time (.055 of a second to Schumacher's .063), Herbert took the win light in a tight race, his 4.57 second pass at 315.49 mph defeating Schumacher's 4.58 second run.
Herbert and fellow veteran driver Larry Dixon squared off in the semifinals. Herbert was first off the line (.063 of a second to Dixon's .069), but the SnaponFranchise.com dragster smoked tires putting Dixon through to the final round.
"This was a good day for us," said Herbert. "I'm really proud of the guys for winning the Full Throttle Pit Crew award. I think that's a good indication of just how good this team is.
"We get better and better every race. Any time you can say you beat Schumacher and Alan Johnson, it's a good day.
"The important thing is we won some rounds and gained some points. Of course we want to win every race, but our goal is to win the championship for my boys. Every win light on Sunday gets us that much closer.
"We will spend the next few weeks getting ready and come out ready to win some rounds in Las Vegas and get closer to the championship."
