Wells is ready for battle in Houston.

BAYTOWN, Texas - After a strong outing at his last event, the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., defending NHRA Division 5 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion David Wells is set to do battle at this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Wells feels that his Blue Bunny Ice Cream/ "Plain Vanilla" team is as ready as ever to keep their early season momentum going with a win in Houston.

Wells, who helps run the family's ice cream business in LeMars, Iowa, used solid 5.5 second performances to make it to the semifinals in Gainesville, only to lose on a foul start. With similar conditions forecasted for this weekend, Wells hopes to duplicate that performance.

"We will make the first pass and see how everything acts," said Wells. "If it acts like it was down in Gainesville, then we'll just try to step it on up some more. Hopefully we can get it to improve and win the race."

"In Gainesville, it was 92 degrees on Sunday, and when everyone else was slowing down, we were still in the low .50's," Wells continued. "If the weather is better, I think we can get this thing into the low .40's. It all depends on the weather."

Wells also hopes to use the momentum from a strong showing in Gainesville to motivate them in Houston.

"We definitely feel good about everything," stated Wells. "But, every
race is different, and you have to go with what you get. You have to
deal with what the conditions deal you. We'll see what happens."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the Top Alcohol Dragsters, with sessions at 2 and 5 p.m. They will recieve one final qualifying session Saturday morning followed by round one of eliminations in the afternoon. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for daily updates and photo highlights of the action from Houston.
