Dave Connolly misses Houston Pro Stock field; Nitro Fish Dodge turns in best run of 6.695 seconds at 207.18 mph
BAYTOWN, Texas, March 28, 2009 -- Dave Connolly was happy to make his 2009 Pro Stock debut in Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish Dodge, but disappointed because the car didn't get down the track quick enough Saturday to get into the starting line-up for Sunday's O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
"It wasn't the kind of outing we were hoping for," Connolly said. "It was awesome to be in a Pro Stock car again. It was the first time I sat in one in four months. We didn't have time to test and then we lost one qualifying round to rain on Friday."
His quickest weekend time was 6.695 seconds at 207.18 mph and it came on his last attempt, leaving him 20th overall.
"The car went down the track from A to B on our first run (Friday)," Connolly said. "The car was a little soft getting off the starting line, but I think that's what Eddie (Guarnaccia, crew chief) wanted so he would get computer data to adjust settings for Saturday's runs.
"We couldn't get the car to run good 60-foot times or run good down the track. There's an issue somewhere. We felt we would be competitive going into the race, but that's the way it goes."
"Dave did a great job driving the car," said Koretsky. "Those weren't the results we were looking for."
Connolly said the fans were "very supportive and happy to see me back at the track," after he sat out the season's first three races.
