CRUZ PEDREGON -- FINAL QUALIFYING RESULTS

Houston, Tex., April 17, 2004 -- Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon bettered his elapsed time with a pass of 4.923 seconds at 294.31 mph during final qualifying for the NHRA Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Pedregon qualified the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo 10th.

"We put a new set of tires on the car for the last session and it didn't act the same as it did in the first session today," explained Pedregon. "Wes (Cerny) is looking into it and I have no doubt he will fix the problem. We just need to go back to the 4.92 set up and be ready to go tomorrow. I'm sure we will recover and be set to go for first round."

Pedregon will face Eric Medlen for the first time in his career in the first round of final eliminations, slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. Medlen is in his rookie season, driving Tony Pedregon's car from the last eight seasons.

"We would've liked to have qualified in the top-half of the field, but we're 10th and tomorrow is a new day. We have a good setup and I'm certain that we'll be on our "A" game when eliminations begin."

Cruz's teammate Tony Pedregon is qualified eighth positioning the brother's on opposite sides of the ladder. In 1997 they met in the final round -- the first and only time two brothers have met in the finals.

Qualifying coverage of the NHRA Spring Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 at 1:00-3:00 a.m. (ET). Final eliminations will air at 5-7 p.m. (ET).
