Millican Qualifies 9th at NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals Will face Fuller in first round of Top Fuel eliminations
Houston - April 9, 2005 Clay Millican of Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing qualified in the number nine position at the NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals and will face number eight qualifier Rod Fuller in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.
Millican qualified with an elapsed time of 4.573 seconds at 318.47 mph, which he achieved in his second qualifying run on Friday evening. His first round opponent, Fuller, qualified with a 4.566 at 322.11 mph. This is the first time the two drivers have ever faced off against each other in NHRA competition.
"I'm excited about tomorrow's eliminations," said Millican. "This track has been very good to us in the past. We advanced to our first ever final round here last year so I'm hoping for another great race this year."
104 car Pomona This race marks the two-year anniversary for Lehman Racing and Clay Millican with Team 104+ Performance Additives, as they debuted the 104+ dragster in Houston in 2003. That year the team achieved its career-best E.T. and speed, with a pass of 4.505 at 330.23 mph. In 2004 the team advanced to its first NHRA final round at the O'Reilly Spring Nationals, defeating Mark Kinsella, Doug Kalitta, and Larry Dixon along the way. Millican finished as the event runner- up to Brandon Bernstein.
The NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals is Millican's third NHRA national event of the season, and he is currently in 10th place in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings. A four-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion with Team Werner/Lehman Racing, Millican will compete a limited NHRA schedule that currently includes at least six national events, as well as a full IHRA schedule, where he will go for a fifth consecutive championship.
