RIVAS OUT IN FIRST ROUND AT O'REILLY NHRA SPRING NATIONALS
BAYTOWN, Tex., March 30, 2008- After a red light foul at the starting line, Chris Rivas, rider of the G2 Motorsports/Drag Specialties/S&S Cycle V-Twin, was ousted in the first round in the 21st Annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Hector Arana, who was in the other lane against Rivas, suffered a broken motor, but was automatically given the win due to Rivas' -.018 reaction time. "It's been a frustrating weekend because everything we did to tune the motorcycle slowed it down," said
Rivas, the 41-year-old Fresno, Calif. native. "We're leaving with more questions than we came with, but we've got four weeks to find the answers and that gives us a chance to put more laps on the bike and find the right combination." Crew chief George Smith was equally frustrated, but maintained a positive outlook.
"We had mechanical problems develop that slowed the motorcycle down, and it was complicated by an electrical malfunction. Overall, we are still pleased with how well the S&S V-Twins are running in the class, which is a great testament to S&S's ability to build great engines and to our racing customers who are able to be creative with this G2 engine and chassis package.
"I want to assure our fans and sponsors - Drag Specialties, S&S, Mac Tools, Gates Belts and Hoses, Andrews High Performance Cams and Gears, Carley Foundry, and Mazak Machine Tools - that we will use the break between now and the Southern Nationals to fix the problems and return our performance to the level we all expect."
Adding to the constructive perspective was Jackie Bryce, Vice President of Operations of G2 Motorsports. "Seven of the sixteen qualifiers were S&S Powered V-Twins, and we also delivered another motorcycle to a customer this weekend. We're looking to continue to bring new teams into the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle class and we are in discussion with other teams and have future plans to compete in the sport." The next Pro Stock Motorcycle in the 2008 NHRA POWERade season is the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, April 24-27, at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
