Howard hoping to turn season at site of her first win.

BATON ROUGE, La. - Five years ago, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Shelly Howard took her first career win at State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge, La. This year, the defending Division 4 Champ hopes to turn what has been a particularly dismal season around at the site where she won her first during the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event there this weekend.

Howard, from Tulsa, Okla., has been plagued by severe tireshake every run this season in her new car. Rather than be discouraged, the team has taken a proactive attitude towards getting the car lined out.

"We're still fighting the tireshake," said Howard. "All you can do is continue to make runs down the track and try different angles to get the problem figured out. Our tuner Tom Conway is one of the best in the business, and we feel it is only a matter of time before he gets it figured out."

Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. on Friday for the Top Alcohol Dragsters, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
